Above P.S. 11, on the 5th floor (and three classrooms on the fourth floor) is the public junior high school the Clinton School for Writers and Artists, from grades 6 to 8. Although the school's name speaks only of its specialization in Writing and Visual Arts, it also has a very strong Math, English, Science and Social Studies programs, along with numerous before and after school programs. The Theatre program is also very good. There are about 300 students in the school.
It has shared a building with P.S. 11 for about 25 years. Before, it was located Uptown in the neighborhood Clinton. The Clinton School has its own gym and a roof in which the students play on. The school's mascot is a hawk. Joseph Anderson is the Principal. [1]
An afterschool program runs every day from 3:10 to 6:00. Examples of the classes are "Homework Help", where a school teacher helps them with homework, "Creative Yoga", where a story is told and yoga postures go with it. An enrichment program happens every Thursday. The students are given a list of enrichment classes, and are told to fill out their top 3 choices. The teachers decide which one the child is to go to, and later, the child is assigned an enrichment class.
